Information for Honors Program Applicants
The Saint Leo Honors Program is a community of high-achieving students who desire to make the most of their undergraduate experience. All University Campus students who meet the criteria below are invited to apply. We use a holistic admissions process that considers not only numerical metrics of academic excellence (such as GPA and standardized test scores), but also the student’s entire academic profile, enthusiasm for honors education, and commitment to the goals of program.
Admissions decisions are based on the following criteria:
- Record of strong academic performance – Incoming Honors students generally have a 3.5 unweighted GPA or higher. However, students who are below 3.5, but who meet the other criteria are still encouraged to apply. Successful completion of AP, IB, Cambridge, and/or Dual Enrollment credits are regarded as favorable indicators of admission to Honors. Honors students must maintain a 3.25 GPA in their Honors courses to graduate from the program.
- Enthusiasm for honors education – Honors is a unique educational experience in the context of a vibrant learning community. Our classes emphasize respectful conversation with a wide diversity of perspectives and frequently engage in learning outside the classroom. Honors challenges students and faculty to take risks, learn from mistakes, and flourish in an atmosphere of academic and personal growth.
- Commitment to the goals of the program – Our program emphasizes the challenges of 21st-century global citizenship. Honors students are excited to use what they learn in class in order to make a positive difference in the world. Coursework and active participation in the Honors community prepares students to make a significant contribution to the greater Saint Leo community through a senior research project led by a faculty mentor.
