FERPA - Your Privacy is Important
Saint Leo University provides for the confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Directory information may be released without the student's prior written consent. The University has designated the following as directory information: student name, address, telephone number, university assigned e-mail address, date and place of birth, major field of study, dates of attendance, degrees, awards and honors received, photographs, enrollment status (e.g. undergraduate or graduate; full-time or part-time), anticipated graduate date, the most recent educational institution attended, participation in recognized activities, and height and weight of members of athletic teams.
To discuss your education record with your parents, spouse, or other persons whom you designate, you must provide written authorization. Your education records include, but are not limited to: records, files, documents and other material that contain information directly related to the student and are maintained by the university or a person acting for the university. This includes admission, enrollment, financial aid, academic, and disciplinary records.
Electronic Submission
Students must submit FERPA authorization electronically from Okta – eLion Self-Service – Student Records Release. See our How-To Guide for further instructions.
Students who wish to restrict all access of education records from all non-university personnel, including the release of directory information, may contact the Registrar’s Office to discuss the option and process for a FERPA Hold (Request to Withhold Directory Information Form).
If you make this election, information that you are/were a student will be suppressed. In accordance with your request of confidential status, we will respond to verification requests from loan companies, prospective employers, or other individuals indicating that we have no record of your attendance at Saint Leo University.
ALL requests to change or rescind a FERPA Release or Hold must be submitted in writing to the Registrar’s Office.
