Student Musical Theatre Performance at University Campus Brings Shakespearean Play into Fictional Outer Space

The public and the university community are invited to attend the spring production from the Saint Leo Theatre Program, Return to the Forbidden Planet. This is a musical, based loosely on the Shakespeare's comedy The Tempest and the 1956 science-fiction film Forbidden Planet.

As the play opens, Captain Tempest is on a journey into space to an unchartered planet called D'Illyria. Only three characters are there: Doctor Prospero, his daughter Miranda, and their robot Ariel. The production features rock-and-roll songs from the 1950s and 1960s, including "Great Balls of Fire,"  "Monster Mash," "Wipe Out," and others.

All performances are held in the Saint Leo Black Box Theatre, on the ground floor of Benedictine Hall at University Campus. Benedictine Hall is the three-story building at the west end of campus and has its own parking lot.

Four performances are scheduled in the week ahead:

•    •   Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m.;
•    •   Saturday, March 3; at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m.;
•    •   Sunday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Seating is limited. Email StLeoTheatre@saintleo.edu to reserve your seat. You will receive a confirmation email as proof of your reservation. Admission is free, but suggested donations of $10 per audience member will be accepted at the door.
