The community is invited to Saint Leo University’s third annual Influential Women of Social Work event on Tuesday, March 5, celebrating those who devote their careers to helping others. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This recognition and award ceremony will honor members of the public, area organizations, and the university community who are making contributions to women in social work. Thanks to the generosity of The Renew Group and its president, Dr. Leven “Chuck” Wilson, four scholarships will be awarded during the March 5 event to Saint Leo University students pursuing Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degrees.
The keynote speaker will be Dawn Brown, executive director for the National Association of Social Workers Florida and Virgin Islands Chapters, member of the NASW-FL PACE (Political Action for Candidate Election), and part of the NASW National Delegate Assembly. Brown has worked in the areas of child welfare and oncology social work. Most recently, she served as the chair of the Online Master of Social Work Program at the University of South Florida.
This year, Saint Leo also will honor individuals who have left an indelible mark on social work education: Dr. Cindy Lee, Dr. Rhondda Waddell, Dr. Marguerite McInnis, and the late Dr. William Day.
This free event will be hybrid and attendees are invited to attend either online or in person. Virtual attendees will receive a link prior to the event. For those attending in person, the event will be held at: Wellness Center at Saint Leo University, 33701 County Road 52, St. Leo, FL 33574.
Boxed lunches will be provided for those who attend in person and there will be a break for snacks or lunch for those who attend virtually.
