Public Invited to Diverse, Entertaining Events at University Campus

Each semester, Saint Leo University hosts many informative and enjoyable events at University Campus that are open to the public. The campus is at 33701 County Road 52, St. Leo, FL, 33574. Parking is always free.

For those not familiar with campus buildings:

• The Student Community Center is in the middle of the academic quad, just beyond the landmark clocktower. The center overlooks Lake Jovita. It is best to use the campus garage to park for midday events.
• Benedictine Hall is the home of the Black Box Theatre. Benedictine is the three-story building on the east end of campus, and has its own entrance from State Road 52 and its own parking lot.
• Lewis Hall is the building just inside the campus entrance on the right. Lewis houses Selby Auditorium, and there is an entrance at ground level directly into Selby. Evening parking is available in surface lots and in the campus garage.

Tuesday, February 19, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saint Leo University Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies panel. The theme of the discussion is "Traditions in Dialogue: The Next Step in Catholic-Jewish Relations," and it will take place in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms of the Student Community Center. The panelists are Dr. Devorah Schoenfeld of Loyola University  Chicago; Rabbi Dr. Alan Brill of Seton Hall University; Dr. John Borelli of Georgetown University; and Dr. Kevin Hughes of Villanova University. Friday, February 22 – Sunday, February 24, opening performances of The Fantastiks. Three performances of this popular, romantic musical comedy are scheduled for the first weekend in the Black Box Theatre by student performers. Friday and Saturday shows are evening performances, set at 7:30. The Sunday performance is a 2:30 p.m. matinee. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. More performances are scheduled for the following weekend.

Wednesday, February 27, 7 to 8 p.m., free, online interactive seminar on the life of Christ and the study of Christian Scriptures. Saint Leo University graduate theology faculty members Dr. Marc Pugliese and Dr. Dan Lloyd will discuss the intersection of these two subjects. Friday, March 1, inaugural Women in Data + Science Conference, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference is open to members of the general public interested in data-infused fields, as well as industry professionals, academics, and college students. Sessions will be held in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms of the Student Community Center. Presenters will discuss topics such as emerging career options, education, and empowerment. The conference is free; lunch can be purchased for $15. Visit this page to register.

Monday, March 4, at 6 p.m., annual Bridge-Breaking Competition. Families with young children are invited to come watch the destruction unfold in Selby Auditorium, Lewis Hall, as teams of college students compete to see who built the strongest model bridge. All student-teams had to use the same set of standard materials of lightweight wooden sticks and glue. Faculty judges test the bridges by seeing which one can hold the most weight before it breaks or collapses – an entertaining spectacle. Admission is free. Wednesday, March 6, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. concert: Student musicians will perform in Selby Auditorium, Lewis Hall, in a program called "When All Else Fails, Music Speaks: Inspirational Music for Troubled Times."  The Saint Leo Singers, the Saint Leo Chamber Singers, the Saint Leo Rhythm Machine, and Saint Leo String Ensemble will be featured.
