Saint Leo online business degree student Darcy Gregory loves logistics and has more than 12 years in the logistics business.
For 10 years, she worked with OSG Ship Management, one of the largest tanker companies in the world and a preferred cargo carrier for major oil and gas companies worldwide.
Currently she is with Mosaic, which provides crop nutrients to customers around the world. She works with the company's supply chain, demand planning and product management teams to ensure products are delivered in a timely manner.
"I love logistics because it's both rewarding and challenging. Every day you face a new challenge to get your product to the customer," says Darcy.
"Some issues such as weather or force majeure are beyond our control. We also face issues with the rail systems or not having enough truck drivers available to drive cargo from point A to point B. I do enjoy the success of getting our product to our customers in a timely, efficient and economical manner."
After earning an associate degree, Darcy plans to purse Saint Leo's online bachelor's degree program in business with a specialization in logistics. She wants to grow her knowledge through Saint Leo's online learning program and continue in the commercial logistics field.
For students who are just starting to think about a career in logistics, Saint Leo's Center for Online Learning career advisor Nancy Cheek presented a webinar about the field and the career paths one can take.
"It was a very good overview of what the logistics field can offer someone who is deciding on whether or not this field is for them," says Darcy who attended the session. "There are several roles within logistics that may appeal to those just starting to pursue their career. Nancy did a wonderful job detailing the different paths one could take towards a career in logistics."
