SLU hosts the 2007 President's Reception
September 12, 2007
This special event was designed to give students considering
attending Saint Leo a broad overview of the university including
academic programs, athletics, student organizations and activities,
and financial aid. Most of the events were held in or near the
university's new Student Community Center on the university's main
campus in Saint Leo, Florida. SLU staff and faculty enjoyed the
opportunity to share the 'crown jewel' of the university campus
with prospective students and their families.
Nearly 350 attendees had the
opportunity to learn more about what distinguishes Saint Leo from
the many college choices available to students. Admission staff
members were also on hand to acquaint guests with the admission
process. Current Saint Leo students also conducted tours of the
campus throughout the day.
Students and their families were able to enjoy an engaging
Academic & Student Life fair. Representatives from all academic
majors and various student organizations were on hand to greet
guests and share more about their respective programs.
Guests had a great chance to learn more through insightful
student-to-student and student-to-parent panel discussions. Mike
Starinieri from the College Board hosted an informative
question-and-answer session on college planning and financial aid.
Topics included standardized test preparedness, personality and
career assesment tools, and the wealth of online tools available to
help students and parents prepare for college. Saint Leo's Office
of Student Financial Services also provided great information on
the all-important topic of financial aid.
LunchTent
After a busy morning attending the various information sessions
and panel discussions, everyone had worked up quite an appetite.
Guests enjoyed a delicious catered lunch on the tented lawn. Two
very lucky students each won a $2,000 scholarship toward a Saint
Leo education!
Martin Smith, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment, expressed
the university's hope that the event had proven to be a great way
to get to know Saint Leo, providing prospective students with
useful information, great hospitality and a tremendously positive
experience of life on our campus.
