Saint Leo Honored as a Military-Friendly University
January 27, 2009
Saint Leo University is
pleased to announce it has been honored by Military Advanced
Education magazine as one of the 2008 Top Military-Friendly College
and Universities.
This is the second annual ranking of this type by Military Advanced Education and Saint Leo has been included each time.
The competition was more intense for the second ranking, though, as more than 2,000 colleges and universities applied for the honor. The schools named as honorees were selected by an independent panel of judges from the military and the field of education. Judges evaluated each institution’s policies toward men and women in uniform seeking higher education.
Saint Leo University has a 35-year tradition of providing higher education services to our men and women in the military. Adult students enroll in classes at our main campus; at more than 40 continuing education sites, including many on or near military bases; through our Center for Online Learning; and through our Distance Learning program, which was created for students who do not have regular access to classrooms or to the Internet.
Saint Leo will continue to carry out its commitment to the military with the same creativity and dedication that has characterized our first 35 years of service.
In this challenging economic environment, Saint Leo is offering a special voucher to active-duty military students enrolled through the Center for Online Learning for textbooks and course materials. The vouchers permit these students to obtain up to $200 worth of books and materials at no cost each semester.
Saint Leo is also attuned to the educational needs and
aspirations of family members. At selected centers, SLU is offering
a special tuition rate to spouses of military members. The special
rate offer permits a spouse who is enrolled in a degree program to
take a third course tuition-free, after completing two previous
courses, explained Dr. Edward Dadez, vice president for Continuing
Education and Student Services.
“We are also initiating a number of refer-a-friend programs,'
Dadez said. “It is our belief that our best ambassadors are our
current successful students who are in the military who will
strongly recommend Saint Leo University to their friends and
family.'
For more information, prospective students are encouraged to speak to advisers at our centers and offices, and at our Center for Online Learning.
