Saint Leo University students, faculty and staff participated in the annual Ash distribution at University Campus on Wednesday, March 5. Ashes were distributed in Saint Jude Chapel at 8 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. as well as a 10 a.m. mass with ashes. There was also a mass celebrated at Holy Name Monastery at 5:30 p.m. and a 9 p.m. Night Prayer in Saint Jude Chapel.
Lent is a time of preparation for the death of Christ on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday during which Christians celebrate the Paschal Mystery. It is a period of 40 days of repentance, prayer, fasting and abstinence, and confession.
University Ministry has also initiated involvement in Fast for Families, a nationwide movement of fasting and prayer to awaken the consciences of lawmakers who stand in the way of immigration reform. A sign-up sheet is available at the altar during the Lenten season for those interested in pledging their solidarity with those who seek justice.
