Navy Spouse Lands Scholarship Under New Program
August 27, 2010
Cheryl Baker, left, a student at the Saint Leo
University Continuing Education Center at Virginia’s Langley Air
Force Base, is a winner of a recently established $1,000
scholarship for the spouse of a military service member. She
tracked down the Academic Explorer (AeX) Institute Scholarship
program while searching for scholarships for herself and her older
daughter, 18, also a college student. Cheryl fit the scholarship
category for Aex, as her husband, Warren E. Baker Jr., has served
for 22 years in the U.S. Navy. Warren plans to serve for eight more
years, and it appears the family will be in the Langley area for
some time. That combination of circumstances prompted Cheryl, who
already has an associate degree, to study further for a bachelor’s
degree. “It’s time for me to do what I need to do for myself,” she
said. She expects to receive her Bachelor of Science in health care
management in 2012. With her in the photo is Paul Sevigny,
assistant director of the Langley center.
