Mississippi Commencement Set for Saturday Fourteen new graduates will take part in Saint Leo University’s commencement ceremony Saturday, June 18, at Columbus Air Force Base, Columbus, MS.

Columbus Police Chief Joseph B. St. John, an alumnus of Saint Leo University, will be the commencement speaker (shown in 2010 photo). St. John was named police chief for the city of Columbus in 2007 following his law enforcement career in Newport News, VA. He studied at Saint Leo University’s continuing education center in Fort Eustis, VA, to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, which he received in 2004.

On Saturday, St. John will address graduates who have earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in one of three fields: business administration, criminal justice, or psychology.

Saint Leo University began teaching in Columbus in 2008. Additionally, Saint Leo has established a partnership with East Mississippi Community College that creates a smooth path for students who graduate from EMCC with an associate degree and want to continue their studies to earn a four-year degree.
