Mass at 3 p.m. Friday Precedes Commencement Ceremonies

A Baccalaureate Mass will be said at 3 p.m., Friday, May 2, in the Marion Bowman Activities Center in celebration of the weekend’s upcoming commencement ceremonies at University Campus. It is a time of prayer and thanksgiving for graduates, families, faculty, staff, and university administrators and supporters—of all faiths.

The presider of the Baccalaureate Mass will be Most Reverend Robert N. Lynch ’97, bishop of the diocese of Saint Petersburg and a Saint Leo University trustee. Bishop Lynch is the fourth bishop of St. Petersburg, having been ordained and installed as bishop in January 1996. The Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg was established on June 17, 1968. The diocese covers 3,177 square miles in five counties: Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus and serves a total population of approximately 2.9 million, of whom more than 425,000 are Catholic.

Celebrants of the Mass will be The Right Reverend Isaac J. Camacho, O.S.B. ’95, abbot of Saint Leo Abbey and a Saint Leo University board of trustee; The Reverend Monsignor Robert F. Morris ’79, vicar general of the diocese of Saint Petersburg and a Saint Leo University trustee; Reverend Stephan Brown, S.V.D., M.Div., assistant to the president for university ministry; and Reverend Michael W. Cooper, S.J., S.T.D., assistant professor of pastoral studies and theology, Saint Leo University.

Reverend Carl Melchior, diocese of Saint Petersburg, will be the master of ceremonies.

The Saint Leo Singers, Just the FACTS, and the Saint Leo Praise Team will provide music ministry.
