Leading Law Enforcement Group Endorses SLU Courses Saint Leo University has been approved as an educational partner by the FBI National Academy Associates, a non-profit professional group of 17,000 members who are high-ranking law enforcement officers from agencies nationally and internationally.

The associates sought recognized institutions that would be able to offer its members high-quality undergraduate and graduate courses and degree programs. The associates have elected to promote to its members Saint Leo’s practitioner-based programs in criminal justice, which are designed to meet the current and future educational needs of police leaders. Most of the courses can be completed online.

“All of the criminal justice faculty are proud to be a part of this partnership and are looking forward to serving the members of the association,' said Barry Glover, associate professor of criminal justice at Saint Leo University and a retired detective captain from the Clearwater (Fla.) Police Department. “The FBINAA is one of the most prestigious and respected organizations in the country,' added Glover, who helped bring about the partnership, and is acting as the contact between Saint Leo the FBINAA.

Associates are likely to be interested in programs such as the Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, which Saint Leo offers through traditional classes and through its Center for Online Learning. Students may elect to study in the general track in the degree program, or they can choose either of two specializations: criminalistics, which is the study and evaluation of physical evidence used to solve crimes; or homeland security, which teaches students about terrorist threats and organizations, and strategies for defense.

The associates also will promote to its members Saint Leo’s Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice. The program prepares working professionals for administrative roles in criminal-justice or corrections agencies. Many courses can be completed online.

Additionally, in January of 2010 Saint Leo will introduce a new Master of Science degree in critical incident management for students who want to study the field in more depth. That will be open to the FBI National Academy Associates also.
