Saint Leo University has a full time Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse available Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.. University Campus students have 24/7/365 virtual Telehealth access to state licensed doctors through our partnership with Varsity Health.

Who is Eligible to come to the Health Center?
Any Saint Leo University student who has paid the Student Health Fee is eligible to be served by the Health Center (includes all University Campus students including part-time and full-time undergraduate and graduate students, residential and commuter).
Health Insurance Requirement
Saint Leo University requires all full-time undergraduate students and graduate students living on campus who attend University Campus to carry health insurance to protect them against catastrophic debt if complex medical or mental health care is required. All full-time campus students and graduate students living on campus are automatically enrolled in the health insurance program but may waive out by completing the online waiver process as long as you have comparable coverage. This policy does not apply to Graduate students not living on campus, Online students, Weekend and Evening students or students attending any of our Distance Learning Centers.
Students living on the University Campus for the upcoming semester will be automatically charged for the health insurance coverage unless they complete the insurance waiver process by a specific deadline.

Affordable Care Act & What it Means for College Students
Marketplace 101: College age students are able to stay on their parents or go into the market place and compare insurances.
The "Marketplace" is the general collective name for state and federal health insurance exchanges. It was created to help uninsured Americans find and select a health insurance plan.
When you browse the Marketplace, you'll find plans available where you live. If your state has an exchange, you'll choose from those listings. If it doesn't, you'll choose from the federal exchange.
Expect to see varied levels of coverage and associated costs. Make sure to explore your options fully to ensure you find the coverage you want at a price that's right for you. Check out these websites for information to help you decide what you want. School sponsored insurance is good until July 31.

Immunizations
In 2003 the Florida Legislature passed Florida Statute 1006.69 mandating vaccination against Meningococcal Meningitis and Hepatitis B for every student residing in on-campus housing at any postsecondary educational institution or sign a waiver after being made aware of detailed information concerning the risks associated with the diseases. Saint Leo University requires all students attending the Florida campus to complete and turn in the Immunization Form to the Health Center prior to enrolling. On campus residential students as well as commuter students must submit a completed form with a physician's signature or an official vaccination record with stamp.
College students have been found to be at an increased risk for meningitis (a deadly brain infection) in part due to the close living conditions. The bacteria are spread by respiratory secretions and direct contact with an infected person. Individuals with compromised immune system, certain health conditions and pregnant women should not take the meningococcal meningitis vaccine. Please read more at the site below.
The Hepatitis B Vaccine is given in a series of 3 shots, most commonly given over a period of six months. This vaccine is considered one of the safest vaccines ever developed. It is not a live virus, so there is no chance of contracting hepatitis from the vaccine. Among the possible side effects are mild arm soreness and fatigue, headache, or fever.
Pregnant women and students who are ill should not receive the Hepatitis B vaccine.
Official documentation for these vaccines must be on file at the Health Center. Check with your family physician or local health department about receiving your vaccinations. All students must be compliant before starting the fall semester. Failure to comply will result in a registration "hold" that may interfere with class selection.

Information for Class Absence for Medical Reasons
When you must be absent from class for medical reasons, it is your responsibility to notify your faculty members. The Health Center is able to provide a written excuse note for missing classes, but you must make an appointment and be seen/ speak with the provider the day that you missed class in order to receive the written excuse note. Notes will not be written retrospective. This is NOT an excuse for missing class. Excusing an absence is ultimately at the discretion of each professor.
